Mobile Phones - desiogn and different use's.

These days you can get a different phone for every occasion (considering you have the budget too). Although im only 17 to think when i was 10 phones were for people who were strictly using them for business there was no picture messageing, facebook mobile uploads and they were very very expensive!! Now there are phones for everyone!

FASHION PHONES
These can be different shapes and have the ability to be customised, e.g change the fascias. Buttons may be in odd places and may be inconvenient to use. They can be bright colours and higly designed, appealing to the fashion-conscious larger.

BUSINESS PHONES These use a slim, sleek design, usually in black ir metallic colours. They have large screens and an intergrated , full qwerty keyboard.
Feautures often include speaker phone, voice-activated dialling, the ability to synchronise it with other devices like netbooks and laptops, large screens to enable work on data files, GPS to get the user to unfamiliar destinations with ease, camera, personal digital assistant (PDA), and 3G compatibility for internet access- allowing users to carry one device rather than many.

MULTIFUNCTIONAL PHONES
These combine both style and business features, appealing to the mass market than niche. They have the best of both worlds: high-spec feauture, large amounts of storage, high-speed processing, slim design with touch screens and access to the internet.

AXING INSTANT MESSAGING - WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS?

Alot of people in the world use instant messaging for all sorts of need, whether its business, personal or social use. I think by cutting it out it will cause problems and the effects will be colossal as you can always email but it takes alot longer to send and receive so this is how instant messaging works and how its a more effective way of contacting someone.

IM and VoIP

IM (Instant Messaging)- Real-time conversation between two or more people using Internet. It involves "talking" to someone by typing messages. It allows quick and easy communication.

IM providers:

  • MSN
  • AOL
  • GTalk
  • Skype
  • Yahoo
IM chat using MSN

VoIP (voice over Internet Protocol)- Simillar to Instant Messaging, but here sound is being sent. It is like making a telephone call but using internet. To use VoIP through computer you will need headset or speakers and microphone. You may also buy a webcam so your friends will see you. Most of the time making call this way is is free (for example using skype) but some VoIP service providers charge a membership or monthly fee. You can also get a special telephone to use VoIP.

VoIP providers:

  • Skype
  • LiquidIT
  • Voipbuster

EMAIL - PROTOCOLS.

The table below shows the differances between IMAP4 and POP3.

- The table was taken from http://email.cityu.edu.hk/faq/popimap.htm

POP3
IMAP
Since email needs to be downloaded into desktop PC before being displayed, you may have the following problems for POP3 access:
  • You need to download all email again when using another desktop PC to check your email.
  • May get confused if you need to check email both in the office and at home.
The downloaded email may be deleted from the server depending on the setting of your email client.
Since email is kept on server, it would gain the following benefits for IMAP access:
  • No need to download all email when using other desktop PC to check your email.
  • Easier to identify the unread email.
All messages as well as their attachments will be downloaded into desktop PC during the 'check new email' process. A whole message will be downloaded only when it is opened for display from its content.
Mailboxes can only be created on desktop PC. There is only one mailbox (INBOX) exists on the server. Multiple mailboxes can be created on the desktop PC as well as on the server.
Filters can transfer incoming/outgoing messages only to local mailboxes. Filters can transfer incoming/outgoing messages to other mailboxes no matter where the mailboxes locate (on the server or the PC).
Outgoing email is stored only locally on the desktop PC. Outgoing email can be filtered to a mailbox on server for accessibility from other machine.
Messages are deleted on the desktop PC. Comparatively, it is inconvenient to clean up your mailbox on the server. Messages can be deleted directly on the server to make it more convenient to clean up your mailbox on the server.
Messages may be reloaded onto desktop PC several times due to the corruption of system files. The occurrence of reloading messages from the server to PC is much less when compared to POP3.

Is online marketing the future?!?

Department stores, mail order, telephone order - all out of a catalogue. In the modern day we hardly see catalogues anymore as this is where online stores come into it. An online store is basically a catalogue as it has all the companies products displayed in one place- however its easier to find for the customer and easier to update for the owner. A online store is more economically friendly then a catalogue and is many respects is cheaper also.

Personally i think this is a good thing as it will help the enviroment and also is a more efficent and organsied way of doing things from a busniess point of view.

USING MOBILE PHONES IN PUBLIC.

The Pros and Cons

Pros

Mollie Phone can interference in places such as the hospital and on air plans it affects the functions of delicate instruments which is quite serious.
Speaking on the phone whiles driving have been banned in many countries as a study taken in 1997 provided that   talking on the phone while driving quadruples the risk of an accident  which is  nearly equal to the danger from driving when drunk.

Many people go to places such as libraries specifically to focus and do work.
Often phone users will multi-task  attempting to carry on a conversation while using an ATM or completing a store transaction. Their divided attention becomes an obstruction to the cashier and an inconvenience to those behind them, who must wait longer.Which can be come annoying.

Others attend church or religious services for time to worship and reflect.
People who use their Phones in such a setting distract others.
When they have paid for a nice restaurant meal, restaurant-goers feel entitled to soft conversation and a relaxed atmosphere in which to unwind. Some cell phone chatter remains inappropriate for anyone to overhear, especially young children.

Cons

Some argue that having 911 available at the touch of a button is critical to maintaining personal security. Mobile phone bans impede drivers' ability to report an accident, road rage incident, medical emergency or crime. Drivers assert the importance of calling for directions if lost or receive help if their car breaks down.
Genuine emergencies do occur, and some calls truly cannot wait. People who have sick or elderly family members, parents expecting an important call from their child, and those in the midst of a crisis believe it's acceptable to leave their phones on in public.Which I deem is understandable.

Some Americans believe they have a right to talk on their phones under the First Amendment, and that Moblie phone bans intrude on their personal freedom. As they pay a high monthly price for this communication option, they believe they can use the devices wherever and whenever they choose.

SOCIALISING ON THE INTERNET.

What is IM (Instant Messing) and the Advantages of it

Instant messing is the involvment of people talking to eahother in a real time by typing and receiving messages.
IM is a form of real time-communication between two or more people which enables them to have a virtual conversatrion. This is quite popular as it allows quick and easy communtication in real time, people are able to collaborate and discuss their views, the users gets to decided  who they wish to engage with and they are able to set a status so that people know if they are available to talk or their busy, you can use through cartain moblie phones, PDA and other portable device.

The Disadvantage
To use IM you would need internet access. If the connection is slow this impacts on the real-time feature also the over use of IM could result in less face-to-face contact with people.
There is lack of emotion so people may misunderstand informations. Writing skills can be affected if the individual uses a lot of text language, the thought of typing my be tiring and you prefer chatting instead.

What is VoIP(Voice over Internet Protocol)
This is similar to making a phone call but rather its on a computer, it's also abit like the IM but uses sound instead of text.
This can also be use on a mobile, so can it save an individual from huge phone bills.
To use a VoIP on a computer the user would need headset or speakers and a mictophone, and a webcam if they wish to stream video to other caller.
Mobile phones must have 3G or mobile internet to connect to internet.
If the landline phone is plugged into the internet router this is good as you can make calls free enven international calls.
VolP services providers charge a membership or monthly fee.

Disadvantages
The disadvantages of a VoIP is reliability,VoIP is dependant on wall power, Your current phone runs on phantom power that is provided over the line from the central office. Even if your power goes out, your phone (unless it is a  cordless) still works. With VoIP, no power means no phone. A stable power source must be created for VoIP.
VoIP is susceptible viruses and hacking, although this is very rare and VoIP developers are working on VoIP encryption to counter this.System can crqash in the middle of an important call.
Emergency 911 calls also become a challenge with VoIP. As stated before, VoIP uses IP-addressed phone numbers, not NANP( North American Numbering Plan) phone numbers. There's no way to associate a geographic location with an IP(Internet protocol) address. So if the caller can't tell the 911 operator where he is located, thenthere's no way to know which call center to route the emergency call to and which EMS should respond

BUYING A COMPUTER SYSTEM - SMALL BUSINESS HOLDER.

If i were a small busniess holder i would require a desktop computer, printer, scanner, fax machine and a laptop as these are all vital requiremtns to run a busniess in the modern day.

Desktop computer - this is a vital bit of machineary as this is where most of the documents will be stored.

Printer - this is also a key item as any urgent emails, signs or important documents that need manually documenting instead of digitally on a computer system can be printed off.

Scanner - a scanner is always needed as if a print only email or document needs storing on the computer system it can be by scanning into the computer system and saving.

Fax - although it may be a little old fashion a fax machine is always required! This is a secure and confirmed way of sending documents instead of email or post.

Laptop - a laptop would be required for a small business holder as when their on the move or need to visit clients etc they can take their documents, emails and saved items from their desktop with them.
